Maria B Criticizes Controversial LGBT-Themed Event in Lahore

Lahore, August 16, 2025 – Renowned Pakistani fashion designer Maria B has sparked debate after strongly criticizing an LGBTQ-themed event held in Lahore earlier this month. Taking to social media, she described the performances as “obscene” and “satanic,” questioning how such a program was allowed to take place under official approval.

According to Maria B, she received video clips of the event from young people who had attended. The footage, later shared on her Instagram, appeared to show performers in dramatic costumes engaging in drag-inspired acts. She condemned the displays as “open obscenity,” further alleging that some elements of the program promoted themes offensive to cultural and religious values.

In her posts, Maria B also claimed that the event carried symbols she associated with “satanic imagery,” including Urdu script written upside down and performers painted with a third eye motif, which she linked to Islamic eschatological references.

The designer’s remarks have ignited strong reactions online, with supporters applauding her for speaking out, while critics argue that her statements could fuel intolerance against marginalized groups.

The controversy has once again highlighted the tension between cultural traditions and evolving conversations on gender and sexuality in Pakistan, sparking wider debate about the role of public events, freedom of expression, and the responsibilities of local authorities in granting permissions.
