The management of a private school in Karachi has been booked on charges of manslaughter following the tragic death of a 25-year-old employee, who allegedly died by suicide on September 1.
According to the first information report (FIR) registered at the Brigade Police Station, the young employee is said to have jumped from the eighth floor of the school building.
Brother’s Complaint
The victim’s brother, who filed the complaint, stated that his sibling left home for work around 8:15 am. At approximately 9:35 am, he received a call informing him that his brother’s health had deteriorated and that he was being shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
“When I reached the hospital, the school’s staff told me my brother had fallen from the eighth floor around 8:45 am. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived, he had already passed away,” the complainant said.
He further revealed that his brother had left a social media post naming three individuals, accusing them of mental harassment and torture, which allegedly led him to take this extreme step. The complainant requested legal action against those named.
Police Investigation
The case has been registered under Section 34 (common intention) and Section 322 (manslaughter) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Authorities have begun investigating the claims made in the FIR and the social media message.
Postmortem Report
Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed that the cause of death was due to severe internal injuries. “There were multiple fractures, heavy internal bleeding in the thoraco-abdominal cavity, and deep lacerated wounds on the back,” she said.
Samples have also been collected to determine whether intoxication or any other substances played a role.
The incident has raised serious concerns about mental health pressures in workplaces and the responsibilities of institutions toward their employees. Police have assured a thorough investigation to determine accountability.
