Govt Declares Public Holiday on September 6 for Eid Milad-un-Nabi

The federal government has announced a public holiday on Friday, September 6, 2025, in observance of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabi-ul-Awwal), commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The Cabinet Division issued an official notification confirming the holiday.

Rabi-ul-Awwal Moon Sighting

Earlier, the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal was not sighted last week, setting Eid Milad-un-Nabi for Saturday, September 6.

Global Observance

Muslims worldwide celebrate Mawlid al-Nabawi on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. The day is marked with religious gatherings, prayers, processions, and illuminating mosques and streets to honor the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Defence Day Observed on Same Date

This year’s holiday also coincides with Pakistan’s 60th Defence Day, observed annually on September 6 to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and martyrs of the 1965 war with India. Special events and ceremonies will be held nationwide to honor their memory.

The dual significance of the day makes it an occasion of both spiritual reverence and national pride.
